Ah! Definitely, buy BG1! It's kind of a 'prequel' for anyone who started playing BG2 first. You'll see the plot, meet characters you've already met and many you won't recognise but have already heard of. You'll meet Imoen, Jahiera and Minsc, and see the circumstances surrounding your early life. In general, you'll enjoy the game, and learn a lot about Balur's Gate history, tactics and background.
