I'll tell you pretty much what I have heard. Fighter types are the easiest to play. Pure fighters the best, but they are pretty 2 dimensional. Clerics and Druids are more indepth with their abilities but you have to sacrifice fighting skill. Mages even more so. The totemic druid can't shapeshift but his spirit animals I hear last a long time and are pretty tough. As for the cap, it is supposed to be fixed for the expansion but that will (hopefully) come out around May I think. If you can wait for it before playing a Druid, that would probably be the best, I was thinking about doing that too since there are supposed to be some major vamps to the Druid class in ToB.
The archer is one of my favorites but because of poor item management there is a mediocre supply of decent bows. I just GMed long bows and made my own. For non-itemmakers the shortbow prof would probably be best.
As for the others, you'll just have to try them out for a time. No class is innately weak, its merely a matter of how you play them. I have beat with game with a stalker, an ancher and a fighter/mage. I like to play whatever is closest to what my fantasy personality matches up to. This is my advice for whatever its worth. I hope it makes some sense. Good luck in your decisions.
