Personal opinion ahead:
1) he is not a bad thief, he can perform your day-to-day thief work
2) he is funny....wait...let me restate this: HE IS *BEEEEEEP*ING FUNNY.
3) he offers early magic support in the beginning part of the game, for those of us who cannot take the whining of certain character.
