I found out that you can cast silence how many times you want on them without anyone turning hostile. This is very useful. Have Jaheira memorize 2 silence, and pooky and the mage will almost for certain be silenced, and you don't have to worry about them anymore. The nymph is also great. Too bad you haven't found that scroll, because it would make the battle fullproof if you had.
