You can also try the divide and conquer, backstab W/yoshimo then have that person follow you downstairs to the party waiting.

Also You can bring the whole party up have your mages cast a couple fire balls or what not, get them mad, and ambush them one at a time. They usually only come downstairs in ones and twos.
I don't know if you guys consider it cheating, but for a low level party it works.
