There seems to be two main types of scrolls -- mage-only scrolls and protection scrolls. The former comes in a red-inscribed flavour, while the 2nd type of scrolls comes in a greenish variety. Of course, there's also cursed scrolls; these scrolls look exactly like the 2nd type of scrolls.
To use scrolls, just place them in any of the 3 quick item slots and then switch to the main adventuring page and click on them.
If you don't have a mage...well, you already have one 'pre-packaged'! Imoen - just dual-class her into a mage of your choice. Otherwise, you can rescue Dynaheir (a Good Invoker) from the Gnoll Fortress, gang up with Edwin (Evil ?? ), or get Xan (Good Elven Conjurer) in the last level of the Nashkel Mines.
