I also have noticed, when helping a friend install BG2, that with his newer computer and setting all of the settings (PC speed, Video, Sound) to max, his system encountered more glitches than when we reset all of the settings back to normal (PC speed = average, . . .).

If you haven't already, you might also want to read the manual and readme files as they explain exactly what adjustments to make for specific video cards.
