The easiest game has to be half-orc fighter/thief. Takes little time to roll up the character (no waiting to get 18/00); and you get the skills you need to survive right away. Kensai mage is very good but you have to advance several levels to get the kensai skills back and are weak at that time. Plus with a thief character you can steal all the spells you want from merchants and give them to the mages in your party (as well as anything else that catches your eye). Although Jan is pretty good at stealing, admittedly.
