I guess it all comes down to interpretation. I think that if you are a fighter/cleric that you should be able to use your weapons. I mean, basically, you are something akin to a Paladin, just self created. When doing a cleric's work, you should be limited as to what you can do, but if you are doing the work of the fighter, then it seems fair that you should be able to use his tools. Why else would you be dual classed?

You know what system I kinda like, it's the one from Torment. I don't agree that you have to have a trainer to switch classes though, but basically, what it does is let you advance in whatever class you declare as 'current'. You started off as a fighter class, but could become a thief and/or a mage as well. I kept Annah (tiefling - thief) in the party so that I could become a thief whenever I needed to, and I also kept Dakkon (Fighter/MU) so I could switch to either a fighter or a mage. The game allowed me to progress in each level independently as long as I kept to the limitations of the class I had 'selected'. The only thing that really sucked about Torment was that the main character could not become a cleric. They did have a succubus as a cleric though, so you could have access to their spells, but really, I wanted it all. LOL

The reason that I liked this, was because it reminded me of the old deity & demigods book. They had characters in there declared as 'hero' that had more than one class. Why, if we are 'heroes' can we not have some of the same benefits? I mean, there should be some kind of a goal that we should be able to set and meet. I believe the 3rd edition has allowed an interpretation of this, but I am not overtly sure just yet. It seems that 3rd edition is getting away from kits and going back to general use. They do seem to be allowing kits to be 'built' from non-specialization points. Not saying that a game would allow us to actually progress to becoming a demi-god or something, but it would be cool if we could become true "heroes".
