It would be awesome, but unfortunately it is NOT doable ... much to the chagrin of a dwarven character i had! lol
The same restrictions apply to throwing daggers. If you equip a ranged weapon (throwing hammer, throwing axe, throwing daggers or darts) then you can not use the offhand for either ranged or melee weapons!
