If you put all the required items on the statue, he should appear, I've quit killing all the creatures in the temple, and let him do it. Less experience, and less head-aches. That's all there is to it, most of the time. Have you talked to every-one involved? If you didn't talk to the priestess that is fighting the raksasha, it may not let you do it, because your character doesn't know that he/she is supposed to. That would be the only thing that i can think of that would prevent that.
