It seems to me that the natural conclusion of the series would involve the main character's ascension to godhood. Along those lines, a return to hell, battles with deities and their servants, and quests involving ancient dragons and other challenging monsters would offer a fitting challenge and conclusion to the series as the main character quests to assume her/his defined role as a deity. In addition, a return to the Underdark to battle with high-level drow, Lolth's minions, and perhaps Lolth herself would also be fitting challenges. In short, the D&D universe certainly has enough in stock to warrant a third installment (and likely conclusion) to the series.
