Killing is not against the creed of the Paladin. It's in the why you kill, and what is affected by your killing. If you further the order of Law and basically side with good, much can be forgiven. As long as you do the killing in a noble fashion (no backstabs - that's why Paladins can't be thieves) you will not have problems. Tis when you go against Law and side with Chaos that you will become fallen. As for Viconia, the public has decided what they wanted to do with her. Tis Law. When you free her, you are going against Law and thus your deities saw fit to remove their gifts to you (ergo - Fallen Paladin). Only through a great deed can this be corrected. You must go on a holy pilgramage (sp) and show your worthiness through a great quest given by the order (PnP D&D). I'm not sure about BGII though. Tis possible that once you become fallen, you may not be able to get back up. Time to dual class.
