Insect Swarm is very, very useful - mainly for stopping Firkraag casting those damned spells! A dragon on Haste is not a pretty thing.

Anyway, I simply cast every defensive spell I had on the party plus haste, draw upon holy might, defensive harmony, righteous magic etc etc, passed around potions of fire resistance to those who had none, laid as many traps as I could (2), got the 5 NPCs to surround Firkraag with missile weapons and my own Cavalier (with Boots of Speed) kept him busy by fighting /running away. Nalia hit Firkraag with Lower Resistance as Jahiera fired off an Insect PLague; after that Nalia kicked off with a Breach and we got to work. When Firkraag tried to kill one of the other party members, the party simply redeployed to get out of his way while the luckless victim legged it and the Cavalier attacked anyway. After about 15 minutes of continual hit-and-run, the mighty Red went down to dozens of sling bullets and arrows - although my Cavalier struck the last blow.
