As I said, I don't understand why the Eagle Eye Bow costs so much.

There is a viable alternative. Have you come across the Seige Arbalaest? No requirements needed like 85 Strength.

-3 to initiative
+3 to hit
+30% damage
5% kill

If you're lucky you can get one from the Trynton Armoury but Ferro in Rapax Castle sells them.

What's the rest of your party like? Do you need to concentrate on his magic at all or is this covered by the others?

There's nothing wrong with increasing his Strength as I think (and I could be wrong) each point over 50 Strength equals +1% to damage.
