Well, i don't play ironman solos. In fact, i don't play solos at all. I tried it, and had to reload that often that it wasn't fun (maybe it would be better if you do stealth training, but i don't).
6 character parties are very easy in ironman. In fact, i can't think of a party with 6 different professions that could have major trouble (unless you choose difficult races).
4 character parties are quite doable in (expert) ironman, if you choose a good combination. I have lost with a few parties, but it's the minority.
3 charracter parties are quite difficult for me. I needed 3 or 4 tries to get one up to higher levels (say 12+). Then, they seemed powerful enough to survive.
