With 'run away', i assume that you left the area. When you came back immediately afterwards, they won't be gone. You would have to rest some time (best 24 hours) before coming back.
The point where you leave an area is not the some spot where you land when you come back. You land more inside the area, and that was just the spot where your enemies were.
Two groups of wasps? I usually get plants. Were you a quite high level, or did you have excellent stats due to training?
When i enter trynton, i often don't fight the monsters i meet. Instead i run straight to Chief Gare, and enter the tree. With x-ray, i'm normally able to avoid combat.
