Jan. His abilities as configured are nicely individualized away from the standard AD&D pattern: that's one point for him. He's the most effective thief in the game, and a good mage who can't overbalance things by becoming a superb mage; he's also physically weak, making him a nice strategic challenge in combat. Graphically, his icon is more distinctive than most, which makes him easy to follow in a battle.

The writing for Jan is also excellent. His whimsical humor scores great points when placed against Viconia or Minsc, for example. I only wish he (and the other characters) had been somehow configured to provide advice at select points in the game. I'm sure Jan would have some shrewd comments to offer about vampires and golems.
