When I was building my samurai I found using Dual weapons with Bloodlust and enchanted wakazashi, I found I had really bad accuracy problems until I managed to raise his dex up. So any build where dex is the third or even fourth stat to be raised, you may be best served to go single sword just to keep from crippling the character in the early and mid game.
For example an "armored mage" looking for an early PowerCast might go
Int Pty Spd Str Dex Sns
in order of which stats to raise first.
Of course the real big advantage of the giant sword is that it is an extended range weapon. So that armored mage could stay in the middle or flank positions without losing that much effectiveness. ( Of course getting a giant sword early may prove difficult. )
