Yep, the infamous cane is restricted to a Faerie Ninja only. It is probably the best one-handed weapon in the game, and is also cursed (so no missile weapons if you equip it). However, that's the only drawback; there's no HP drain as with some other items.
Don Barlone has the Cane and you have to kill him to get it. Best to save before doing that, as the drop is not guaranteed.
