I was soloing a sorc a while back, and wanted to get me a nice shiny staff.

So I decided to attempt the Twisted Rune, and descended. I grabbed a Protection from Magic scroll, read it, and commenced battle.

I kept getting killed, even though I was protected, and it wasn't from the vampire or thief, who i cloudkilled (wand) to death.

It was from the named beholder who kept Death-raying me! Now I thought PfM scrolls protected against this type of thing! Or are spells like Death Ray, Kangaxx's Imprisonment, etc. able to get through a PfM barrier?
