The priest is a very good class, regardless of what people think. Unlike you're standard magic casting class, where fighting abilities are poor, the priest (true for D&D too) makes a good fighter. If you play D&D, think of the priest not as a cleric, but more of a paladin. You'll find that once you have all protection spells cast in battle, combat awaits you're priest. His prayer ability is also extremely useful. So don't instantly blow off the priest, the class is extremely effective.
