Your own resistances can rise above 100%, it just doesn't show on-screen. In fact, if you have too much Divinity Resistance (or was it just Divinity skill?, using a certain robe and other artifacts), the number goes above 255% and starts over at 1%!!! Some call this a wrap-around bug. It's happened to one of my Bishops. It also can happen with your speed I have heard.
I recommend disabling the best fighters for Souleater, but I only had a problem with him once or twice. I run up, using Chameleon to get as close as I can, and melee. I always have someone with Cure Insanity, though. I never disarm anymore. Also, he doesn't always use Turncoat, so you can reload and try again if you get a death.
Update on current party: my 4-party of Fighter (formerly Rogue for 16 levs), Monk, Ranger and Bishop has become extremely powerful. Levs are 18-21. No RPCs. The only death allowed was the Rogue against Gregor. (I know there is no penalty for dying in this game, but there was in earlier Wiz versions). We are about to go to Rapax Castle but may make a side step to tackle the Sorceress temple first. That battle is one of the hardest.
