I was always suprised that this never happened to me, but I've played 8 parties to completion and never seen this. The most suprising was a scenario in which I camped next to a window in Arnika while the Higardi bandits stomped around on the other side of the window looking annoyed. I figured that they might try the door, but they never did.
I was attacked once while camping in Braffit's temple, so I don't camp there anymore.
