Unless a couple (even if out of the above) are treated as and built up as fighters instead of going for Powercast and also optomizing their magic capabilities, it is difficult to see how such a party could make it through the entire game.

Which problems should these parties have?
I played a 'Pure Spellcaster' party on expert ironman. Mage, Priest, Alchemist, Psionic, two Bishops. And with 'Pure Spellcaster', i mean no melee or missile attacks at all (except when turncoat or insane).
I intended to play without using the Summon Elemental spell, since that might be interpreted as some kind of melee attack. But there were three fights which i wasn't able to win otherwise. Two could be avoided (El Dorado and Nebdar), but then there's the final fight...
