You need the safe key from a hidden wall alcove on the same level of the monastery.
Go to the room with the statue that's holding a skull above its head. There'll be a sign on the wall that, when clicked on, will say something about death. Stand behind that statue and click on the skull it is holding, and a niche will open in the wall with the "safe key" in it.
If you're standing in FRONT of the statue and click on any location except the skull, a trapdoor opens beneath you.
The safe contains Resurrection Powder, which is never a bad thing to have.
