Put characters in the side and rear slots. For example:
3 characters front, one left, one right, one rear, 2 spellcasters in the center.

If you leave the front slot free, left + center + right are all at the same range.
It is used by players with very melee-heavy parties. However, its more difficult to protect your spellcasters in open areas.
