Granted, I'm no expert on the class changing thing, because I like to go from start to finish on one class, but I really don't think that you'd want to switch to a bard or gadge just because you wanted some spells. I'm playing my second game and I'm really really missing the gadgets. Gadges and bards get good spells with their own classes, and starting with a magic really only gets you maybe a heal or something. By the time that you get the lightning rod, your gadgeteer is a pretty potent offensive force, and once you get that omnigun tweaked up to make 10 or so, it's absolutely incredible with all the effects that you get from it. So I really don't recommend switching TO a gadgie...just start it as one. I know that a lot of people like doing the alchemist or bish to a ninja thing, and I don't know enough about a bard yet, having only played mine to trynton, but those are my thoughts on the gadgeteer, at least. But...play how you want to play. There are infinite ways that are all effective to play this game...that's why I love it so much.
