Why don't you try him with each for a battle or two and see which arrangement he does more overall damage with? Depending on his strength & dexterity and his close combat and dual-wielding skills, he might be better now with with Excalibur but if you build up that dual-wielding, he might just turn out to be better with the Ivory Blade and Diamond Eyes in the long run.
