Try this:
Go see Yamir first and get his agreement to the alliance. In writing.
Then go to Z'Ant. Don't talk to him. Put the Umpani alliance letter on your cursor and click it on Z'Ant. That may work.
If it does, you can go back to Yamir and get on with destroying the Black Ship. With that done, see Yamir one more time, to get Rodan and Drazic out of the party.
No, you don't need Vi in your party for the end game.
