Personally, the ranger's scouting skill is inconsequential to me --- it's his ranged criticals that I'm really after. Switching a ranger just doesn't make sense to me because that would take away my reason for starting with a ranger in the first place.

At level 10, your ranger's ranged crits is just starting to make a difference in combat if you've built-up the proper skills, esp. senses, dexterity, bow. He's not just an archer, he's a potential one-hit sniper. I'd stick with the ranger, if I were you.

On the other hand, if your party composition is kinda weak on the frontline, like if you find belatedly that you've put in too many spellcasters and too little tanks, then I concede it may make sense to convert to a fighter to get the melee/armor/berserk abilities.
