Definitely level up as soon as you are allowed to. Just make sure you practice alot in between levels, do as much as you can in every combat, rest when you need to and recast buffing spells, etc. If you can keep your party's skill points high relative to their level you'll be fine. My advice is always have 2 RPCs with your party, will slow their rate of leveling as they take exp point shares.
