There is more to leveling up then just the acquiring of new spells. Did you forget about the points you put into your stats? You gain certain expert skills when an attribute reaches 100 (see page 126 of the game manual).

Then there are the academic skills themselves. You gain extra hits, higher chance to kill in one hit, etc. when these skills are raised. There are tougher monsters in other areas of the game. They will not all be your level now. You have to grow into their level as well.

Spells would not be all that important to you if you had no magic casters in your party, but even they will gain during combat but at a slower pace then when you add points at each level.

All-in-all it is your choice. It is your group and you are free to make the call with them. It would be interesting to see just how far you can get without leveling. At any rate, have fun.
