Sadly, no, there is no explanation in the manual, as it is, the only reason why we were able to work how spell learning was done, is because one of the lead programming staff from STC at the time posted details (refer to
http://wiz8.web1000.com/perko.html for a copy).
I've got a couple of theories on how profession-changed characters and spell learning is done (included in that other message you mentioned), but so far I've had very little expressions of interest to include it into the spreadsheet. Either the message isn't getting though (had to move web sites) or people aren't interested anymore (ie, they've finished playing and moved on to another game).
