This is true only if your game is unpatched. One of the patches fixed this error.
I had been looking forward to getting the extra XP and was wondering why I hadn't had the opportunity until I read a thread somewhere that clarified the issue for me. Unfortunately most of the people who mention the respawning of Brekek neglect to mention the part about the patches.
