You don't have to finish the T'rang or the Umpani quests to win the game. I was up to the "destroy-the-tranporter" quest for the Umpani and the "find=the-Co-ord-for-Savant-ship" quest for T'rang. I Did not finish either quest. I went to Assension point with out either race backing me up and won the game.
Clearly the game was made with multiple endings. At my end game I was provided with 3 options to end the game. Great Great Game.
