I have a dvd drive and had no problems with installation. Are you sure your new dvd was properly installed? Do you have the latest drivers? Have you tried installing other games with the new dvd drive? If you actually have two dvd's on the same machine, maybe there is a conflict somewhere, don't know.
This kind of thing is hard to advise on from a distance. But if it installed with the original dvd, then it's installed, right? Can't you play it from there?
