You can use the lightning rod and duct tape in battles.
The lightning rod casts a pretty hefty Energy Blast and the duct tape paralizes. I haven't used the duct tape yet but I do know that using the lightning rod sucks up some stamina points.
I just picked up some electrodes and put them into my Gadgeteer's inventory but haven't checked to see if they can merge with anything nor have I been into any fights since I picked them up so I can't tell you if they can be used that in battle...see if they are in the list of usable items (in a fight) and check out what they do if they are!
