Even without the spells, the thing that's cool about a lord it HP regeneration. You only need to heal them if they're badly injured during a fight, otherwise, they'll heal back up on their own.

I found that all of my fighter types did pretty poor damage until we got to Arnika. There, I bought or found some better weapons, and started seeing better damage.
