Leave by the main exit on the base level. Prepare yourself: this will be a difficult battle. There are two basic taanari and one named one who is stronger than the other 2. All of them have powerful spells and are viscious in hand to hand combat.
I used the staff of fire that you get earlier in the sphere to summon 5 fire elementals; these distracted him while I lowered his resistance so they could damage him, then I hit him with vampiric touch and my own staff. Hard, but doable. The sphere was my first quest after the circus. I was a level 8/9 gnome fighter illusionist.
