The Recharge spell was one of my favorites in the game. I think it was Divine magic (the one where all the healing spells were).

To recharge an item, you had to have at least 1 charge left in the item to replicate. Because a flubbed recharge could destroy the item, you want to save the game before attempting the recharge. Also, it's best to have a character high in Karma to do the recharge (has something to do with Luck....)

Best strategy: Find a fountain (like the one in Father Rulae's dungeon in New City), stand at it, and charge up the item until your mana is all gone, then drink from the fountain to replenish your mana. Repeat. Have one of your characters cast "Identify" on the item from time to time to see how many charges you're at. You can only charge up to 99, so when you get it to 99, stop.

This works on all chargeable items.

BTW, I realized later looking at the save game files in a hex editor that the Light Key and the Diamond Ring are both "chargeable" items with 1 charge each. This is something I didn't know during the game. Now, if one was to charge these items, could the Key and Ring be used multiple times to get all the Sacred Items from the Hall of Preservation?

That in itself would be worth playing through to find out.
