i think there is a real drawback to layered icons in that they are not directly importable to dungeon craft. there may be a lot of would-be designers turned off by artwork in a format that they cannot readily use.

As an Artist using Photoshop, I have ALWAYS used Targa files. you get 100% quality. All the official art is done in TGA first, then converted to PCX or BMP.

I personally don't like png formats, they can be buggy.
TGA's also allow 32bit transparency, which most games these days use. All your FPS games all use TGA files now. I love the format! [img]smile.gif[/img]
