I would have to agree, Manikus. Music can be a great 'moodsetter' in any mod. And, I think it is great that DC has such great support for different formats already.
But....
Right now anyway, I don't think the music subsystem is quite where it needs to be to be truely useful. And I think CocoaSpud knows about this already, but the Designer doesn't have enough (well, any) control over the music in game. I.e. I have been working on this mod and I specified a midi file in the 'Background Music' section of the level properties. and when the game started up and you entered the level the music started up and played over and over and over, and all was well. Then, at a certain point in the level I needed a sound effect played (and the players would go somewhere based on hearing this sound) and the sound was barely audible over the music that was playing. And I tried several different methods to get the music to stop playing, but to no avail. Eventually I just removed the music altogether.
Now, what I think would be great if there could be a 'Sound Control' event or something like that. And with this even we could select what sound/sound area (i.e. background music, night music, zone, etc.) to turn off or on or adjust volumes, etc. That way when we need to turn thing off or on, we just insert the event in the appropriate place. Just my $.02
