I happen to have some opinions (thats right, more than one...), the top three in my opinion would be greco-roman, Norse, and sumerian. Why? Well, I'm glad you asked...
greco-roman is familiar (what with disney's "hercules"), and features an array of gods and goddesses who work together or not and many heros, too, examples include hercules himself, achilles, helen of troy, hades the lord of the underworld, athena (goddess of wisdom and war), and many others
Norse is another one most people have heard of, with gods like Odin (or wodin, if you prefer), Thor, and loki. They also had a great battle that was destined to occur in the near future with powerful giants that everyone knew would destroy the world, and yet the gods could not back down...
People might have heard of one or two from the sumerian (or is it babylonian, I forget...) These include the god Marduk, hero Gilgamesh, and evil monster Tiamat (thats right, Tiamat).
Just tossing ideas...
As for any I would like to see, I think the Norse would be my favorite mostly because of the armageddon battle that could be an awesome plot. I will be using a set of deities I've created, so I don't need icons or pics (at least not yet...)
