I have to agree to a point. I read the twins trilogy (the sequel to the original novels) when I was about 14-ish and loved it. Then, only about two years ago did I finally read the original novels (Dragons of XX), expecting a great adventure story but instead, found them horribly simplistic and cliche. I guess reading them backwards wasn't the best thing to do.

Weis and Hickman did get better as they went on and are capable of some amazing and deep storytelling. Stories like Darksword I felt were more adult and far more immersive and these were written pretty early on too. The later prequels like Soulforge were actually quite charming to read, kind of takes you back a bit. In these books you can see just how much the authors have grown in their writing and style.
