Aww... I was trying to edit my previous post to remove my sig and I deleted it by mistake...

harlequinn, you're obviously biased by the series. You alone made half the posts of the thread, and reading them, I can see you're very enthusiastic about the series. I think that even if the movie had been awfull, you would still have liked it.

If you look at my post on the first page, I was really looking foward to this movie. I must have watched the trailer 10 times in anticipation. I do hope they bring the series back eventually.

But the thruth is that it's a pretty average script for a movie, and they didn't even try to make it as a movie. They just picked up about where they left it in the series. They didn't even try to introduce the world for those that didn't know it.

For example, they didn't even explain Shepherd Book. They show up there all of a sudden, say a couple of lines to him and leave. People who didn't see the series couldn't tell him from Joe Nobody. Then they come back and find him dead. To the ramdom guy, this mean nothing, they never saw the guy for more than 15 seconds.

River wasn't done really well either. In the series she can't control her emotions and is mostly nut, with some mysterious and unknown powers thrown in. In the movie she's acting mostly normal. The only strange thing she ever say is "I swalowed a bug". I think that ruined the character. Instead of a nut escaped lab experiment she's a quiet psychic.

Actually, they didn't even introduce any of the characters or their backstory, it was expected you already knew the cast. It was really just a continuation of the series, but 2 hours long because the author can't make it 1 hour long anymore. They should have called it Serenity Special: Episode 15-16.

They also failed at really introducing the Reavers as what they are. First we see them attacking a small town while the heroes are stealing the bank. That doesn't really make them seem that evil, much less monsters. Then the only other time we see them is their "fleet". The ships don't even look that bad. We just see them scavenging scraps in space. They really came out more as pirates than space psycho. The crossing of the fleet could have been way more scary if they had handled the Reavers better.

The whole movie is like that. Instead of discovering and living the events, they are explained. "These guys are evil", "These two are married", "This one want to have sex with the doctor". There is no subtlety, they just come up and say those things. For those that didn't see the series, the world and characters are not fleshed out at all.

Then there was the final fight. I'm sorry, but it really break my disbelief when a 16 year old girl can kick the crap out of a mob of armed fearless enraged druged cannibals, even if it's a really well trained girl. The bar fight was ok, but this one? Pure cheese. Did she even get hurt?

I'm not going to go into the plot holes and bad acting, because I don't remember enough of the movie for that, but really, if the movie was so good, it would be doing a lot better in the box office.
