Canadians may not get a chance to see HP 4 in theaters if this lawsuit wins. I cannot see how they could win, but you never know how courts will decide on anything.
Basically, in the book, the band that plays at the Ball is referred to as the Wyrd Sisters, if I remember correctly. A Canadian group by that name has filed lawsuit against not Rowling, but the movie (including the guys that actually play in the band at the ball in the movie) and want monetary compensation as well as the banning of the movie in Canada! Woah!
The film producers scoff angrily at the lawsuit because they said that nowhere in the movie is the band named
anything. They did not have time in movie-making to care for naming the band at all during shooting.
And its not their fault that Rowling named the band that in her book, nor is it their concern to research it out to make sure that the word "wyrd" does not translate into a vulgarity in Mizteco.
Without knowing better, I would have guessed that this lawsuit was borne in the US, but sadly our tainted lifestyle has rubbed off on the nice guys up North.
