it is kind of a sci-fi style book, about a guy who is from another world, and he is fighting bad guys (go figure) and before long, people from this world are brought over on the brink of death, or having a bad life to help fight the enemy, been a few years since I read one, but it is pretty good to read, do a search on the dark tower to learn a little more
