Just wondering, did anyone see this show when it was on? It originally ran from 1997 to 2002 for 5 seasons. I recently finished watching reruns and I have to say this is one of the coolest shows ever!
In case anyone doesn't know, Nikita is a young woman framed for murder by Section 1 - a covert anti-terrorist organisation. Her death is faked in prison and then she is taken to Section 1. She's trained and basically she has to work for them or she'll be killed. Section 1 is a much cooler CIA - but they will use anything to get information out of people - torture, psychological manipulation, drugs. And they'll kill their own agents if they fail a mission or don't stand up to standards. In this environment Nikita constantly has to try to retain her humanity while being forced to kill in cold blood, refuse mercy, pity and love etc. In almost every episode, a different facet of her humanity is tested or eroded.
Nowhere else do you see the chilling coldness in the characters which makes you believe they truly can kill without emotion. And then anything can happen. It's also great how every operation has a concurrent side-story. You can think of a plot twist - this show has it. Also, some missions are actually fake and are just made to test agents' loyalty or ability to keep them on their toes.
A truly great show, methinks.
Anyone else seen it? What do you think about it?
