I think most Hollywood scores are awful. Even the LOTR trilogy had some real cringeworthy moments music-wise. Those horrid panflute melodies at the end of part one, for instance. Man, they sounded like something out of Celine Dion/Titanic.
The male choirs in the Balrog scenes were great though, as is the main theme.
And I just saw Troy last week. That movie has THE worst soundtrack ever! It was SO incredibly tacky! And an insult to the audience's intelligence too. The *second* a "sad" moment set in, they had to play this incredibly annoying incredibly loud fake arabic chanting. As if we needed that or we wouldn't be able to tell it was supposed to be a sad scene. It was horrid.
Umm, yah.... soundtracks that I liked.
The Lost Highway one gets my vote. That is just perfect in every way.
I also liked what they did with the music to Eyes Wide Shut.
